“In a room full of voyeurs Lucas Bourgine’s chandelier positions itself as the star. When looking up from the doorway, 'Untitled (lustre 6 & 17)' perspectivally hangs in the center of the gallery. It invites our gaze with spectacular glass prisms, technical puzzles absorbing surrounding information while refracting self-omitted light.
Caught in a custom designed two-sided ceiling hanging frame, both Bourgine’s stills linger in ghostly snapshots. Remembered space is constructed through a stereoscopic process. Tassels and beads weave through incongruent spacial planes. Shadows rest atop an out-of-focus foreground beam.
Like the light source itself, the chandelier resists a simplistic capture, enigmatically remaining an object of distant devotion.”
